CREPEY SKIN

WHAT IS IT:

Thin, fragile, creased or papery skin.

As one ages, the skin loses collagen and elastin and starts to thin. It also loses its ability to produce enough hyaluronic acid and hydrating factors or these are broken down via internal or external processes. The support underneath the skin is sometimes decreased which can result in the crepey, creased effect.

Crepey skin may be caused by sun damage, smoking, ageing, weight loss, poor barrier function and long-term steroid use.
