MICRONEEDLING
SKINPEN® MICRONEEDLING CIT
The only microneedling device that is FDA approved

WHAT IS IT:
Microneedling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)  is a treatment where extra fine needles on the tip of a pen shaped device are used to create invisible puncture wounds in the skin,  thereby triggering  the bodies’ natural repair processes to create regeneration.

Microneedling breaks down old and defective tissue, generate fresh new plump collagen and stimulate the release of growth factors, making the skin stronger, filling in fine lines and scars and improving microcirculation.

WHAT IS IT FOR:

WHAT HAPPENS:
The skin is prepared with an antiseptic then a disposable cartridge with 14 extra fine needles is placed on the tip of the motorised SkinPen® and stroked over the skin. The high speed vertical stamping action creates 1300 tiny, invisible puncture wounds per second, activating specifically targeted areas of the skin and resulting in regeneration. Oxygenetix post procedure recovery cream and foundation is applied after treatment.

Microneedling is safe for all skin types and has a very quick recovery time, without the photosensitising effects experienced with lasers or peels. It is also an excellent treatment for the hands, chest and anywhere on the body where rejuvenation or the improvement of imperfections is desired.

Many choose to replace their regular Medi-facials with SkinPen® treatments.

DOWNTIME:

The day of the treatment. Full recovery usually takes between two and seven days.

DISCOMFORT LEVEL:

Little to moderate discomfort depending on depth of the Microneeding. Topical anaesthetic is normally used.

RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY:

When using superficial or medium depths, treatments can be done every two weeks on an ongoing basis. Deeper needling requires four to eight weeks spacing, potentially with superficial treatments done in between. Frequency also depends on skin type and other factors. One off treatments are also possible. Please speak to your practitioner for expert guidance and a treatment plan.

NEED TO KNOW:

  • No exercise for two days after treatment.

  • No sun exposure one to four weeks after treatment, if a Peel is also used. Five days if Microneedling is done on its own.

  • No touching or washing of the skin the day of the treatment.

  • The skin will feel and look like it has a mild to moderate sunburn the day of and the day after treatment. The skin may flake a little a few days after the treatment, especially if it is dehydrated.

  • If there is a history of herpes (cold sores) on the treatment area, the prophylactic use of antiviral creams or oral antivirals is recommended prior to and post treatment.

SUITABILITY WHEN PREGNANT OR LACTATING:

MICRONEEDLING:

MORE INFORMATION

Can I have a LED treatment straight after Microneedling?

The answer is almost always, no. Microneedling utilised the bodies inflammatory processes which means anything cooling, calming or anti-inflammatory will counteract results.
However, LED is an excellent treatment to have in between Microneedling session as using red and near-infrared wavelengths, LED enhances Microneedling results and stimulates the production of type 3 collagen. Microneedling then converts type 3 collagen into firmer, more supportive type 1 collagen.

Does Microneedling make products work more effectively?

Yes, Microneedling is an excellent way of aiding the deep penetration of ingredients into the skin.

This can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the nature of the product. Some ingredients may be suited for topical use but are not sterile or suited to enter the skin directly. If non-sterile or unsuitable ingredients are microneedled into the skin they will bypass the skin’s sophisticated filtration and defence processes and can result in chronic severe immune reactions (granulomas) and infection. In addition, molecules that are too big can become stuck in the skin long term and potentially cause harm.

We do all our Skinpen ® treatments with sterile, sealed, medical grade Mesotherapy or Biorevitaliser products for improved safety and results.

Does superficial Microneedling need to be done in a sterile environment?

Yes, superficial Microneedling still bypasses some of skins barrier systems, and if not done correctly, can lead to infection and damage.

Do all depths of Microneedling result in the same effect?

No, superficial Microneedling cannot produce the same regeneration of collagen and rehabilitation of capillaries as deeper Microneedling. It does however release growth factors, improve cell renewal, as well as aid the penetration of the right ingredients into the skin. Superficial needling is a great option to do between deeper Dermapen® sessions, for specific skin concerns, or for those who don't wish to do deep treatments.

Do I need topical anaesthetic to have Microneedling?

No, you don't but it is certainly an option. Using topical anaesthetics can constricts blood vessels and arguably, work against the efficacy of Microneedling. Allergic reactions, if they occur, are more likely to happen in response to the anaesthetic cream itself rather than to any other part of the treatment. It also adds a half an hour to treatment time. The actual Microneedling part of the treatment only takes about 10 minutes and as a result, most people are fine without anaesthetic. On the pro-side, anaesthetic cream can make deep needling much more comfortable.

Can you Microneedle over the top of anaesthetic cream?

No, this hasn't been cleared as safe to do. Anaesthetic cream is removed prior to treatment.

Will Microneedling improve all skin conditions?

No, Microneedling is not a one size fits all procedure. Microneedling is suitable for all skin types but is not the correct choice for treatment on certain skin conditions. Proper consultation and evaluation by a skilled practitioner is essential for safety and best results.

How will my skin look after Microneedling treatment?

The skin usually looks flushed and feels a little stingy for about two days. This is totally normal. You will look like you have a moderate or mild sunburn, depending on the depth of the Microneedling and your skin type.
