WHAT IS IT:
Microneedling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)  is a treatment where extra fine needles on the tip of a pen-shaped device are used to create invisible puncture wounds in the skin,  thereby triggering the body’s natural repair processes to create regeneration.

Microneedling breaks down old and defective tissue, generates fresh new plump collagen and stimulates the release of growth factors, making the skin stronger, filling in fine lines and scars and improving microcirculation.

WHAT IS IT FOR:

Microneedling is CE classified for treating:

Because of its mode of action, Microneedling should also help treat:

WHAT HAPPENS:
The skin is prepared with an antiseptic, and then a disposable cartridge with 14 extra fine needles is placed on the tip of the motorised SkinPen® and stroked over the skin. The high-speed vertical stamping action creates 1600 tiny, invisible puncture wounds per second, activating specifically targeted areas of the skin and resulting in regeneration. Oxygenetix post-procedure recovery cream foundation can be applied after the treatment.

Microneedling is safe for all skin types and has a quick recovery time without the photosensitising effects experienced with lasers or peels. It is also an excellent treatment for the hands, chest and anywhere on the body where rejuvenation or the improvement of imperfections is desired.

Many choose to replace their regular Medi-facials with SkinPen® treatments.

DOWNTIME:

The day of the treatment. Full recovery usually takes between two and seven days.

DISCOMFORT LEVEL:

Little to moderate discomfort depending on the depth of the Microneeding. A topical anaesthetic is applied pre-treatment.

RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY:

Treatments can be done every two weeks on an ongoing basis when using superficial or medium depths. Deeper needling requires four to eight weeks of spacing, potentially with superficial treatments between each. Frequency also depends on skin type and other factors. One-off treatments can be of benefit. Please speak to your practitioner for expert guidance and a treatment plan.

NEED TO KNOW:

  • No exercise for two days after treatment.

  • No sun exposure one to four weeks after treatment if a Peel is also used. Five days if Microneedling is done on its own.

  • No touching or washing of the skin on the day of the treatment.

  • The skin will feel and look like it has a mild to moderate sunburn the day of and the day after treatment. A small amount of flaking may occur a few days after the treatment, especially if it is dehydrated.

  • If there is a history of herpes (cold sores) in the treatment area, the prophylactic use of antiviral creams or oral antivirals is recommended before and post-treatment.
